1. Who we are
Choosr (the "app", "we", "us") is operated by Ahmet Mert Öz, an individual developer based in Bursa, Türkiye. For the purposes of European data protection law (GDPR), Ahmet Mert Öz is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.
You can reach us at support@letschoosr.com. If you're in the EU or UK and would prefer to write to a postal address, mention that in your email and we'll respond with one.
2. Your photos — how they're processed
When you tap Compare, the two photos you selected are sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to our backend, hosted on Google Cloud servers in Frankfurt, Germany (europe-west3). From there they are forwarded to our AI partner (a third-party generative AI model) for a side-by-side analysis. The AI returns a structured verdict — the winning photo, a confidence score, and the reasons — and we relay that verdict back to your device.
Two important details:
- We don't store your photos on our servers. The photos exist in memory inside the backend function only for the few seconds the analysis takes, then they're discarded when the function returns. We don't write them to disk, we don't log them, we don't put them in a database.
- Our AI partner has its own policies. Once a photo reaches the AI partner, that partner's privacy and data-handling terms apply to the processing they perform. AI providers may retain inputs for short periods (typically to investigate abuse or improve safety filters). They do not associate your photos with you, because we don't send them any identifier that could.
The end-to-end transit time is a few seconds. Your photos do not appear in any analytics, crash report, or log we receive — there is no engineering reason to log photo bytes, and we don't.
3. What's stored on your device
Choosr keeps three kinds of information on your iPhone — none of it leaves the device on its own:
- Comparison history. A copy of each pair of photos you compared, the category you picked, and the AI verdict. Stored in Apple's on-device SwiftData store. You can delete any comparison from inside the app, and uninstalling Choosr removes the entire history.
- Credit balance. How many free and purchased credits you have left. Stored in Apple's Keychain, encrypted by iOS.
- App preferences. Small flags like "have you completed onboarding" and "did you make a diagnostics consent choice yet." Stored in standard iOS UserDefaults.
4. Optional diagnostics
To find bugs and learn which parts of the app actually work for people, Choosr can send anonymous crash reports (when something goes wrong) and anonymous usage events (which buttons get tapped) to Firebase, Google's mobile app analytics platform.
These events contain things like "user tapped Compare" or "an analysis failed with error type X." They do not contain your photos, your verdicts, your name, or your email. The identifier attached to them is an anonymous, app-specific ID generated by our payment processor (RevenueCat). It can't be used to find you in the real world or to track you across other apps.
Consent rules:
- If your device's region is set to a country in the EU, EEA, the UK, or Switzerland, diagnostics are off by default. The first time you open the app after onboarding, we ask you to choose. You can change your answer anytime in Settings.
- Outside those regions, diagnostics are on by default. You can turn them off anytime in Settings.
When diagnostics are off, no usage events and no crash reports are sent. This is enforced at the Firebase SDK level.
5. Identifiers we use
Choosr does not require you to sign in or give us your email, phone number, or name. We do work with two technical identifiers:
- An anonymous app user ID generated by RevenueCat (our payment processor). It tags purchases and lets us restore them if you reinstall the app. It can't be linked to you outside the Choosr ecosystem.
- A device integrity token issued by Apple via App Attest. The backend uses this to confirm requests are coming from the genuine Choosr app and not a script or an abusive copy. It does not identify you personally and we don't store it.
6. What we never collect
For the avoidance of doubt, Choosr does not collect or use:
- Your name, email address, phone number, or any other contact details (you never give them).
- Your location — coarse or precise.
- Your contacts, calendar, microphone, camera, or health data.
- Apple's IDFA (Identifier for Advertisers). We don't run ads, we don't measure ads, and the SDK setting that would let us read it is explicitly disabled.
- Cross-app or cross-website tracking of any kind.
- Your browsing history or anything that happens outside the Choosr app.
7. Our service providers
To run the app at all we rely on a small number of providers. Each is bound by their own published privacy terms. We only share the minimum data each one needs to do its job.
- Apple — distributes Choosr through the App Store, processes your in-app purchases, and powers the Photos picker, Keychain, push notifications, and App Attest used by the app. Apple's privacy policy applies.
- Google (Firebase + Google Cloud) — hosts our backend in Frankfurt, runs the AI request through our partner, and (when you've consented) processes anonymous diagnostics and crash reports. Google's privacy policy applies to data processed on Firebase / Google Cloud.
- Our AI partner — a third-party generative AI provider that performs the photo comparison. We have selected a provider with a privacy-respecting policy for API inputs. Their terms govern any processing they perform on the photos and prompts we send them.
- RevenueCat — manages in-app purchase receipts and entitlements. They receive your anonymous user ID, your App Store receipt, and the products you bought. RevenueCat's privacy policy applies.
None of these providers receive any data we would consider directly identifying — no name, no email, no precise location, no ad IDs.
8. Where your data is processed
Our backend runs in Frankfurt, Germany (europe-west3). The AI partner may process the request on infrastructure outside the European Economic Area, depending on the provider's region selection at the time. Where data crosses borders, we rely on the providers' published transfer mechanisms (Standard Contractual Clauses and equivalent safeguards).
Apple, Google, and RevenueCat each operate globally and may process administrative data (purchase receipts, crash reports if you've consented, App Store account info) in their own regions — see their privacy policies for specifics.
9. Your rights (GDPR / UK GDPR / EEA / Swiss FADP)
If you're in the EU, EEA, the UK, or Switzerland, you have the following rights regarding personal data we hold:
- Access — ask what data we have about you.
- Rectification — ask us to correct anything inaccurate.
- Erasure — ask us to delete data we hold about you.
- Restriction — ask us to stop processing while we sort something out.
- Portability — ask for a copy of your data in a portable format.
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interest.
- Withdraw consent — for diagnostics, just toggle it off in Settings. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before you withdrew.
- Complain to a supervisory authority — your local data protection authority.
In practice, because we don't store your photos on our servers and don't associate diagnostics with a real-world identity, most "what do you have on me" requests resolve to "nothing on our side; everything is on your device, and uninstalling the app erases it." If you write to us at support@letschoosr.com we will respond within 30 days.
Our lawful bases for processing are:
- Performance of a contract — for processing photos you submit for analysis (that's the service you're paying for).
- Consent — for analytics and crash reports.
- Legitimate interest — for App Attest device-integrity checks, which protect the service from abuse.
10. California residents (CCPA / CPRA)
If you're a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect about you, to request deletion of that information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising your rights. Choosr does not sell personal information and has not done so in the prior 12 months. Choosr does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. The categories of personal information we process are described above in sections 2–5. To exercise your rights, write to support@letschoosr.com.
11. Children
Choosr is rated 4+ in the App Store but is intended for general audiences who want help picking better photos of themselves. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in jurisdictions where that is the age of digital consent). If you believe a child has used Choosr in a way that resulted in their personal information being processed, write to support@letschoosr.com and we will take steps to investigate and, where appropriate, delete that information.
12. Data retention
- Photos sent for analysis: not retained on our servers (held in memory for the duration of the request, then discarded). Our AI partner's retention is governed by their terms.
- Comparison history, credit balance, and app preferences: on your device, until you delete them in-app or uninstall Choosr.
- Diagnostics (when consented): processed by Firebase under Google's standard retention; typically 14 months for analytics and indefinite for crash reports unless we delete them.
- Purchase receipts: retained by RevenueCat and Apple as long as legally required for tax and consumer-rights purposes.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves or as the law changes. If we make a material change we will update the "Last updated" date at the top and, where appropriate, surface a notice inside the app or on the website before the change takes effect.
14. Contact
